Thirlmere infinity pool is one of the most popular natural pools in the Lake District renowned for its beautiful views. Its popularity on Instagram brings in both locals and tourists looking for the perfect photo opportunity and a chance for a wild swim.
The walk to reach the pool is generally straightforward, with a few steep inclines along the way.
How to get there

I found the instructions to this spot online but it was outdated which made it a bit stressful as it said to park at the village hall but when I got there this was closed with a padlock across the gate. After speaking to a local they explained that it is no longer open to the public. Just to the right of the village carpark was a small gravel area with room for about 15 cars so I parked there.

The walk starts by heading up Stanah Lane. Once you reach the top of the road you will see a little wooden gate. There is a sign by the gate to Sticks Path Pass. Go through this gate and make sure to close the gate behind you.

Once you are through the gate you will be walking along a narrow path lined with bracken on either side of you. The path was quite muddy on the day I went so make sure you wear suitable shoes. You will go through a couple of gates before you reach a very small waterfall on your left hand side.

Keep walking past this little waterfall and eventually you will get to part of the path where it veers off to the right following a stone wall. This path is very rocky (a lot of wobbly rocks) and narrow.

After walking for around 25 minutes along this path you will get to a wide open path that is quite steep and heads straight up towards the waterfall. This is also very rocky so do watch your step.
Once you are near to the top of this hill you will see the waterfall on the right hand side. To get down to it I had to climb over a little fence (although I didn’t see anyone else mention this when I was looking at how to get there so there might be an easier way).

Once over this fence you just walk down to the pool of the waterfall – there are a couple of little waterfalls on the way down. This is very slippery when wet. I went absolutely flying and got covered in mud, but it was all worth it once I was swimming around in the pool with beautiful views.
